Chengrong Li (also known as Paul Li) is a solicitor of England and Wales with over 20 years of legal experience spanning both China and the UK. He specialises in banking and finance, as well as inbound and outbound investments and broader commercial legal matters. His practice covers both non-contentious transactions and cross-border disputes, particularly those involving Chinese counterparties, regulatory elements, or assets.
Paul has practised at leading international law firms, including a Magic Circle firm in London, and served as in-house counsel at a world-leading transportation bank. He has advised nearly all Chinese financial institutions operating in the UK, along with many prominent international banks and corporates, on a wide range of complex cross-border transactions.
As the founding partner of the firm, Paul leads Han Kun (London), the trading name of Lawson Wright LLP, and established the London team to serve clients across the globe.
He has deep experience in cross-border disputes and transactions involving corporate M&A, securitisation, financial services, distressed assets, and international trade, across sectors such as aviation, shipping, real estate, infrastructure, construction, and energy. His clients include commercial banks, leasing companies, multinational corporations, professional organisations, and government authorities in both China and the UK.
Paul is also a regular speaker at international legal and financial conferences, and actively shares insight on cross-border financing, legal risk, and international strategy across global forums and online platforms.
